Top of the 57th floor

The weekend has been crazy, that's the best summary I will give.
From Friday that I picked my Bumpy up from Pasir Ris till now, I think I have been having too much fun and a little too little sleep. Hahah.
We started with family dinner on Friday night with his family, simple yong tau fu and yes I am exploring more areas of Toa Payoh. Kind of an achievement for me since I barely touched much of Toa Payoh and it's always fun to explore the hawker food around Singapore.
Soon, Bumpy and I shall venture out towards hawker food (when our wallet is broke).

At night we had a birthday celebration to attend, so we headed down to MBS. Whoohoo. Honestly, I never been inside MBS rooms before, so it's kinda exciting to see how the view like (most importantly) and also how the room likes. And just maybe a year down in future or more, maybe book a room to stay there overnight and swim in the infinity pool.
Till then, I have my mind set on Studio M first.

No pictures of the birthday celebration though. Wasn't that close to the birthday boy and I'm there as my Bumpy's girlfriend. Though we had fun playing SMELLY WOMBAT. Hahah. And it's just funny how I stare too intensely at the cards. Guess I can't do any poker face or anything, or focus on two things at once.
How to play smelly wombat?
There has to be even number of players in the game and each player will have their partner sitting opposite them. Each player will be given 4 cards and the aim is to get 4 of the same number to win. Once everyone have their cards, the dealer deal out another 4 cards to place in the middle and that's when the madness begins.
Everyone would grab the cards that they want, in exchange of the cards that they don't want. And this goes on until someone have their winning cards. Now here the fun part. You can't let anyone know that you have the winning cards. Only your partner have to know through a special signal that you have between you two, and once your partner shout WOMBAT, you both win! But if you do the special signal and your partner didn't notice the signal but someone else does, they will shout SMELLY WOMBAT and you both lost.
Sound fun?

And I realize that outings with Bumpy never result me in over drinking or even me getting overly tipsy. Which is a super good thing 'cause he is helping me drink on my behalf. Although that mean drinking double but it also mean I get home in a good state of mind and not reek of alcohol.
And best of all, I don't get a bad hangover the next day.
Sensible drinking.

Instead, we headed up to the observation desk of MBS for the perfect night view of Singapore.

And well, we can't only take pictures of the scenery alone. There has to be people in the picture too right?

One thing you really detest about taking night pictures is the horrible lightning. It's either too dark or too bright. So hard to get the right brightness out without the use of flash.
So we kind of spend an hour upstairs with pictures taking, trying to get the right setting, the right exposure, and well, eventually no flash was used, and we used iphone torch light instead to get the brightness out, and also to set the iso a little.
Well, another reason to say I need to use my camera more. And not just leave it at home half of the time but actually learn how to take nice pictures with it.

But well, we celebrated the start of our third monthsary with a beautiful night view, and pictures taking.
A moment I don't want to forget.

Eventually after the party ended, and friends went different ways. Some wanted to drink, some wanted to head home, and some wanted to head to Pasir Ris for the next birthday celebration the next day.
For both of us, we wanted to eat!
And finally, like finally, Bumpy is bringing me to Swee Choon, after the countless times of me asking him to go with me. Super happy when he finally agreed!

We ordered about less than 10 dishes, mainly 'cause we weren't that hungry but still wanted something to eat. Some of the items that we ordered include: Char siew bao, Siew mai, Salted egg custard buns, Red bean pancake and carrot cake!
To finally try Swee Choon, I wasn't sure to be disappointed or like hmmm!
For one, I didn't enjoy the char siew bao at all. And for me, it's a super big deal 'cause I'm a big fan of char siew bao. So that's strike one down.
But to mke up for it, the custard bun was  not too bad, good flowing salted egg custard inside and it's good.
The carrot cake is awesome as well, crispy on the outside and nice chewy on the inside.
The siew mai also is not bad, though it was weird that it was served on metal plate instead of the usual. Though it's still not bad, but the presentation of the dishes wasn't that nice.
Overall, I might return back here again if I'm in the area but maybe not specifically.
Next place to try; 126!

Awesome fun yet tiring night. And I reckon during the supper/early breakfast eating time, we were both super tired and can almost doze off while eating. Hahah!
Every weekend my Bumpy is still guilty of sending me home late. Hahha. K.O. the moment I hit the bed. Too exhausted and needed strength for the next day.

Too much eating and travelling in a day. And it's a good thing it's only the weekend that I'm up that late so I have the weekday to regenerate my strength.

Birthday celebrations!

Peekaboo!
Haven't been blogging much for the past two weeks? Wasn't much active with any pictures taking, let alone trying to recover from my super stubborn cough.
Officially I am sick for one week, and it doesn't seem to get any better. The best I stopped coughing is like for ten minutes before the coughing resume. And that's after taking medicine.
Else now is with flu which doesn't make it any better either. Yet, best news, I'm not staying in bed to rest but keep going out to meet social calendar, school stuffs and driving.

Anyway, this week we had two birthday celebration in class. Two of my classmates are having their birthdays in the same week! One being my 'grand-daughter' and the other being my 'daughter'.

That's our first cake. A simple cake with fruits topping! We should have like gotten a veggie cake for her instead. Hahah.
And the following day, or rather that afternoon, I baked a cake too!Planning to bring it to class for everyone to have a slice.

My first time baking cheesecake. Apart from the previous time of doing oreo cheesecake, but this time the cheesecake is getting baked.
Wasn't too sure how the result would be like, and I'm super nervous about it, the whole time the cake is inside the oven. When the cheesecake first came out of the oven, I wasn't sure how to feel. The top was slightly burnt and like the color layers weren't that uniform.
Was in agony and was debating whether I should still bring it to class. Shawn was telling me what to do to save the top layer, such as adding egg white. But I just didn't want to do anything with the cake already, not even slicing the top off so it won't be so burnt.

Eventually you know that it's the thoughts that counts.
And also celebrating the birthday together that is more important. Plus after the cheesecake got cut, the color inside looks not too bad.
But nah, I think next time I would stick to normal cheesecake without any rainbow colors. Hahah!

So that's cakes overload in two days.
Now for the fun weekend ahead!

And kitty back on her dessert diet again. A spam of dessert three times this week. Definitely couldn't be any happier than this.
Tried this waffles shop inside Cathay after we were done watching World War Z.
Turned out to be awesome, and with a choice of sweet and savory choices, it suited Box and mine's taste; one being a sweet tooth and one isn't.
Next time just might try their sinful chocolate waffles, which I had to resist ordering it this time. Though the chicken floss waffles looks super interesting as well. I mean chicken floss on waffles?!

That's all the short update I have right now. Back to essay writing and later a fun event! Stay tune for the pictures.

A busy Saturday out

Finally the end of a busy week. And now I'm wondering about next week. Cross fingers I have some time in between to relax and chill out.
Sunday's probably my most important day, especially when it's the day that I rarely go out hence the only day that I get to slack at home the whole day, do my own stuffs and get some work done without the thought that I have to go out and meet anyone.
Then again, Sunday also the day I put aside for family time.

On Saturday was another busy running around day for me, from morning till night. Reckon I probably need to duplicate myself, just so I can be at two places at once. Lol.
Though morning again, I had a rare sleep in an extra 2 hours.
Sudden change of plans to go down to Nex for lunch with family.

It became a trend that we're celebrating both Mother's and Father's Day at Fish & Co.
Then again, that is big brother's treat.
Next week would be my treat for daddy. Lol. Big brother's treat is both at Fish & Co, while for me, I choose my location accordingly (somewhat).
Mother's Day was the dessert buffet, something I reckon mummy would enjoy.
And for Father's Day, well, I'll reveal the location next week.

After lunch, headed down for my next appointment at Orchard.
Dr Low was celebrating her new clinic opening down at Scotts Medical Centre. So the next time anyone wants to find an orthodontic, you know where to head to!

Couldn't eat much since I just had lunch, and decided to head straight for dessert instead.
And a refreshing glass of white wine. Only mistake was not getting the name of the wine.
Exploration of the new clinic and also finding who is the employee of the mouth!
Home-d before I needed to change into another outfit for my event at night. Rushing, indeed.
Next event is Ashley's 21st party at 49 seats. That's another strike off my food hunt list.

Super love the interior design of the store, the way how menu were pinned up on the wall like decoration, the interesting lights, and the wall decoration. We had the inside of the store all booked up for Ashley's birthday, and it was theme black and white.
Brought him a balloon, in which I painfully held it through my mrt ride with people staring at me and a kid wanting the balloon. Felt bad for the kid but I really couldn't give him the balloon.
Then again, I know how is it like to receive a balloon randomly, and cheap thrill maybe but I do receiving surprise gifts once in a while.

Was seated with Ashley's secondary school friends, since I kind of have no special group to sit with. But the guys I sat with were very nice, and did try to include me into their conversations as well, ensuring that I do not feel left out.
The meal consist of unlimited refill of ribena (Gosh, I haven't had this drink is years!), mushroom soup and a main course. For me, I chose chicken chop since I had fish for lunch already (best not to overload fishes in a day).
However, personally, I felt that the fish & chips were more to my liking as compared to my chicken chop. Nothing special that screams out to me. Pretty much 'cause one of his friends offered a piece to me. Lol.

The party ended with screaming (singing) the birthday song and trying to see if we can get a complain from the opposite neighbor for noise pollution. Even the owner was being very spontaneous about it and getting us to sing louder. Off with the birthday cake, and chilling out with the birthday boy.
Eventually time kicks in, and time for me to head home. Cinderella still ain't a fan of staying out late, and she woke up with horrible blisters on her ankle. Major sigh.

Turning 92

Yesterday marks the day my grandma turn 92.
To think at her age, she is still strong, able to walk without much assistant, and even going traveling every year.
I would definitely want to be just like her when I reach that age.
It's indeed a bliss to be celebrating her birthday with her sons & daughters, nieces & nephews and not forgetting even her great grandchildren!
And for that, it's also my first time in four years being back in Singapore to celebrate her birthday.

The lunch took place at Taste Paradise in Ion Orchard.
Best of all, we had a room to ourselves and the ability to make as much noise as possible without disturbing others.

Miss out on taking pictures of the first dish; roasted suckling piglet.
Had it on my phone, but of a poor quality.
The main amusing thing was they stuck cherry as the piglet's eyes.
And my nephew got excited trying to show us a video of how piglet were slaughtered, and hoping that we would lose our appetite after the video, such that he would have more pieces of the roasted piglet skin.

Second dish was my favorite of all the dishes; combination of wasabi and mayonnaise prawn.
Even going to Paradise Inn for meal, I would always try to order that dish.
For this lunch, it was served in a dessert glass, and included were pieces of honey dew and strawberries. Indeed a refreshing dish. Awesome to say, I had three glasses of my prawn for lunch.
Almost went for a fourth, but had to let others have a second glass.

The sixth dish arrived and it was char-grilled spare ribs with sweet plum sauce.
Another dish that I enjoyed for lunch, though by then, I was slightly full.
The ribs were tender and soft and it didn't require much effort to tear the flesh away from the bones.
Full of flavors which melt into your mouth while chewing it. Definitely a dish I need to learn to cook.

Like all course meals, the carbohydrate dish comes at the end.
The fried rice was slightly different, it is cooked with preserved turnips and salted fish.
Disappointed with this dish, was kind of hoping they would serve the fried rice with preserved sausage instead.

With all the meat and vegetables dishes served, the best is served last.
There's always room for dessert.
From the left, we have the pan-fried pumpkin pastry, black glutinous rice and chilled mango puree.
To be bias, I do love mango pudding so I'll vote that the mango puree is the best.

Finally we have the longevity buns to be served.
For this lunch, there is a lot of eating to be done, and after that a lot of exercise is needed to be done to loose the calories.
I don't think I manage to stomach the bun in, after all the eating.

Last but not least, the birthday cake.

The smile on grandma's face... Priceless.
Once upon a time, it used to be me standing beside her and blowing the candles out. After all, I was the youngest cousin and closest to her.
Now it's time for the next generation to take the place.

Ending the post with this picture.
Happy dearest 92th birthday grandma!
You were the one who was always there for me since young, the one who remembered my favorite food and buy them from the market for me to eat. I remembered how when I was young, I would tag along with you to the wet market, observe how you purchase groceries and carried them. The morning breakfast we have at the hawker center of the simple traditional coffee.
In simple words, I love you.
